Strategic Advice: With over 19 years of experience advising decision makers on the risks and legal ramifications of proposed courses of action, Penny Phillips draws on that experience to provide her clients with strategic legal advice, focused on meeting specific business needs.
Practical Solutions: Business leaders find Penny’s legal advice to be quite valuable, focusing on the company’s specific situation and goals while addressing the legal aspects of the situation. Most legal services can be provided on a flat rate basis, giving business owners certainty about their legal spend.
How does it work: For example, as a legal adviser to small businesses, she provides advice on issue common to most businesses, while also addressing the effect that the laws regulating that particular industry have on the company's proposed actions and agreements.
Penny's background: Penny spent over nine years working as an in-house lawyer, employed by one client at a time, and building in depth understanding about business strategy and processes. Penny’s background gave her the opportunity to learn about the intersection of business and law, including electronic information.
When Penny served her country as a commissioned officer/lawyer on active duty with the United States Air Force, she learned Military Law and gained valuable experience helping military members with their personal legal matters like divorce and family law, wills and estate planning, and about the military law aspects of these areas of law.
Prior to joining the Air Force, Penny was a criminal prosecutor in Plainview, Texas, serving as Assistant District Attorney for the 64th and 242nd Judicial Districts of Texas and acting County Attorney for Hale County, Texas.
Penny is licensed in Texas and Florida. She is admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court (1992); U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas (1993); Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (1995); the Florida Supreme Court (2001); U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida (2001); U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit (2002). She is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. In 2011, she was named the Collin County Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. This is awarded to the attorney who donates the most time in that year of free legal services to the poor through Colllin County's chapter of Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.
Penny earned her law degree at Texas Tech University School of Law in 1992 and her Bachelor degree, summa cum laude (with highest honors), at Lubbock Christian University in 1989.
